Department of Theater adds new Theater Education 4+1 Program

In order to give students more ways of engaging in the theater world, the Department of Theater is now offering a Theater Education 4+1 Program, which allows students to earn both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in five years while preparing them for professional careers in theater education and outreach.

In 2018-19 TFMA gave out over 50 scholarships representing a substantial amount of money used to help students who demonstrated skill and potential, as well as need for their expenses.

Senior to star as peacemaker Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet

Julia Hopkins will play the role of Benvolio, which is usually played by a male, in this semester’s production of Romeo and Juliet; she was casted in part due due to her advance stage combat skills. The senior theater major began practicing martial arts in high school with Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. She is now a certified actor combatant and the best stage fighter at Temple.

Junior gets chance at dream role in Temple Theaters' upcoming production of Hairspray

Junior theater major Salvatore Mirando made his theater debut in eighth grade, as the iconic Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls with the classic Broadway hit, “Sit Down You’re Rocking The Boat.”

It was then that Mirando discovered his talent for comedic roles, and inspired him to cultivate those characters during his time at Temple.

Professor Elisabeth Subrin's Course Encourages Women in Film

Associate Professor Elisabeth Subrin proposed a new idea for an elective course shortly after she first arrived at Temple, remarking how marginalized women’s film remained in the film industry, as well as in academia.

With support of Temple’s Department of Film and Media Arts, the Women Film/Video Artists course was born, and is now a permanent part of the curriculum.

Temple Theaters will be transporting audiences to Verona and Milan with what is to be considered Shakespeare’s first comedy, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by James J. Christy, running Wednesday, February 3 - Sunday, February 14 in Tomlinson Theater.
