Earlier this week the exceptionally talented Owl Alum Kalen Allen (TFM '18) announced that he would be guest hosting "The Ellen Show" on March 31 -- but there were more Temple-related surprises in store!
Not one — but two Owls were featured on Ellen this week! Along with creative luminaries Kelly Rowland and Angelica Ross there was an emotional surprise when Kalen was also joined by our very own acting professor and alum Amina Robinson (TFM ‘99, ‘03)!
Kalen, who became an internet sensation in 2017 with his cooking reaction videos, is now perhaps best known for hosting the segment OMKalen on EllenTube and has recently been featured in the film "An American Pickle on HBO. Kalen was also featured as one of Temple University’s 2020 30 under 30.
Amina, in addition to her teaching and directing as a part of Temple Theaters, is an accomplished actor who can be seen in a deeply moving performance on the most recent season of ABC’s "For Life" and has a Barrymore Award for direction.
While Kalen's career might have taken off like a rocket, he hasn’t forgotten the foundation, guidance, and mentorship he found at Temple. His touching talk with his "favorite professor" Amina, shows how connected he remains to his education and his life as an Owl.
Says Amina, "[Kalen] was just so exuberant and so full of life... I said to myself, this one right here is going places."
But the surprises weren't over -- "The Ellen Show" (through their sponsor Shutterfly) will be supporting Temple Theater, Film & Media Arts with a generous donation of $10,000! Says Kalen, "There's nothing I love more than to give back to the community that helped me become who I am today."
We’re more than thrilled -- thank you so much to Kalen and the Ellen show. We can’t wait to see what Kalen does next!
