Film and Media Arts Professor Lauren Wolkstein's The Strange Onesco-directed with Christopher Radcliff, made its world premiere at South by Southwest recently.

The mystery-thriller stars Alex Pettyfer and James Freedson-Jackson, and was orginially adapted from Wolkstein and Radcliff's award-winning short of the same name. The feature-length film surrounds the events of two brothers as they make their way across a remote American landscape. What appears to be a simple vacation soon gives way to a dark and complex web of secrets.

The film has received tremendous reviews as well as a Jury Award for Best Breakthrough Performance by James Freedson-Jackson. Director Lauren Wolkstein was also named one of Indiewire's breakout talents of the festival.

Lauren Wolkstein's short film Cigarette Candy made its premiere at SXSW in 2010, taking home the Grand Jury Prize that year. Other short film credits include The Strange Ones and Social Butterfly.  She was named among the 25 Independent Filmmakers to Watch in 2013. Lauren Wolkstein is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Film and Media Arts, teaching such courses as senior projects and thesis development for graduate students.
