Temple University’s tuition rates reflect a subsidy from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The difference in base tuition between Temple and other institutions should be considered when comparing financial aid offers from colleges.

Graduate Applicants

Graduate students are eligible for financial assistance from federal, state, private, and university sources. To qualify for most types of financial aid, students must first be admitted to a graduate program. Graduate students can receive federal loans, university fellowships and university grants, in addition to assistantships.

The most prestigious of which are the following:

Presidential & University Fellowships

These awards carry full tuition remission and annual stipends and are renewable. They are awarded by Temple University based on the strength of the statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, and academic/professional record as documented in the graduate application.

Future Faculty Fellowships

The Graduate School Office administers the Future Faculty Fellowships program, the goal of which is to diversify the American professorate by supporting students from groups that have historically been underrepresented. Nominees must be admitted to a terminal degree graduate program before being considered.

More financial assistance information is found at the Graduate School and Office of Student Financial Services (SFS).

Assistantships

During their time at Temple University, many eligible graduate applicants are awarded some financial support in the form of Teaching Assistantships along with supplemental grants for production work. Awards are generally based on progress towards the degree. Through their teaching assistantship awards, graduate students work with mentors to develop teaching skills while production grants help them advance their creative projects.

Additionally, there are a variety of other awards available to graduate students including presidential, university and future faculty fellowships, partial support for foreign graduate work exists for those coming through the Fulbright program as well as university completion grants that help students finish their degrees.

Up to 10 credits or 100% full tuition per semester is available for selected graduate assistantships. The Theater Film and Media Arts Department determines eligibility for students and the nature of the work. This work may vary from teaching to practical work experiences within current productions. The Deaprtment of Film and Media Arts offers a variety of assistantship options
