MICHAEL BURRI has taught courses on film history, cities and cinema, race and diversity, and on Central European film in the department of Film and Media Arts. He has published on Austrian and Swiss film, and his articles have appeared in German Studies Review, Austrian History Yearbook, Journal of Austrian Studies, New German Critique, among others. He has written review essays and opinion pieces in leading Czech and American dailies, including Lidové noviny, Dnes, and The Washington Post.


Dr. Burri is editor of the Journal of Austrian-American History and Vice President of the Austrian Studies Association. He is currently co-editing a volume of essays entitled After Vienna. Post-Imperial Salzburg as Austria's Future Kulturstadt: 1919-1938, and completing a book project on cultural diplomacy and the state in Austria. In 2020, he is completing a fellowship with the German Historical Institute. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in Comparative Literature.
