More in About:
Theater Graduate students have the opportunity to engage with Philadelphia’s thriving arts scene, diverse communities and institutions. The experience of being a Theater MFA student operating in conjunction with a cohort of other actors, directors, screenwriters, playwrights, scene and costume designers and other across the artistic disciplines at Boyer College of Music and Dance and Tyler School of Art is fertile ground for collaboration. Theater MFA students sit at a unique vantage point in their teaching and learning to both influence the work of others while executing their own creative visions.
Within the MFA graduate landscape, there are opportunities to interact socially by connecting to Philadelphia’s vibrant music, arts & culture and food. Below is just a selection of links to get the resourceful graduate student on the right path to finding a great exhibit, meal or outing to occupy visiting family and friends.
Philadelphia is known for being a “neighborhood of neighborhoods” each with its own historical, cultural and environmental details that make them unique living-learning communities.
Information about on and off-campus graduate housing options can be easily accessed on Temple’s University Housing and Residential Life website.
One of the most notable highlights about living in the Greater Philadelphia area is the proximity to many other epicenters for arts and culture on the East Coast like New York City and Washington DC.
The affordable and convenient options for transportation start with SEPTA local buses subways trolleys and regional rail systems and include Amtrak, PATCO, and NJ Transit. Most options cost less than a typical cab ride across town.
In addition to rail, Philadelphia also maintains independently operated bus services like: Yo! Bus, Megabus, Bolt Bus, and Greyhound. There are also other local companies operating in the Chinatown area of downtown Philadelphia that provide affordable travel options such as Go To Bus.
Philadelphia is also home to car-optional & car-sharing transportation companies like Uber, ZipCar, and Enterprise Car Share. All national car rental retailers are also located in the Philadelphia Airport and across the city.
