We are pleased to announce the inaugural CPCA Student Research Competition, a showcase of student excellence. This annual competition gives outstanding researchers the chance to present their work at a center-wide research symposium. It offers them an opportunity to gain valuable exposure and recognition, to enhance their professional profile, and to connect with students and faculty across multiple disciplines.
Competition Format
Students who are enrolled in a degree program within the Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts during the 2026–27 academic year may apply in one of three categories:
- Undergraduate
- Master’s
- Doctoral
One winner will be selected in each category.
The submitted research paper, which can be a maximum of 12,000 words in length, must be on the same topic that you will speak about during a twenty-minute presentation at the research symposium, if you win.
The research paper may be a term or seminar paper from a previous course, a master’s thesis chapter, or a dissertation chapter. It must represent original, non-AI-generated research and writing that has been carried out while at Temple.
Submissions will be evaluated by a jury of faculty drawn from across CPCA.
Prizes
Winners will each receive an award in the amount of $1,500.
Process and Timeline
- Applications from all competition participants are due by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30.
- In order to apply below, participants must download and complete a signed Teacher/Advisor Approval Form.
- Winners will be announced on Friday, October 9, and must be available to present during the research symposium on Friday, October 30, 1–3 p.m. in the Temple Performing Arts Center.
