Department of Film and Media Arts Tech Recommendations
(as of May 2025)
Incoming students may choose to purchase a computer prior to their first semester or may prefer to use campus resources. Technological needs can be met on campus through various Tech Labs.
We do recommend each student begin the semester with a 1TB external hard drive compatible with their preferred operating system. An external drive is necessary equipment for large video files and data back-ups.
For those who choose to also purchase a computer, here are some general guidelines:
- Students may choose a PC or Mac Laptop or Desktop.
- Whether a Mac or PC - the computer must meet the Operating System Requirements for Adobe Premiere Pro - https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html
- Once a student is registered, they will have access to down the Adobe Software Suite for Free.
- The Adobe Suite is compatible across PC and Mac. We use Mac computers in our Post Production computer labs. A student may want to consider a PC instead of a Mac due to personal preference, cost reasons, or because the student is interested in advanced work in Virtual Reality/VR rendering, Video Game development or advanced visual effects using UnReal Engine.
